Friends of KIAC, 

We have exciting news to share! On October 10, KIAC will be holding our first in-house medical clinic. For the last several years, we have been partnering with West Sound Free Clinic to provide medical services to our clients through three clinics each month. At the end of August, West Sound Free Clinic closed their (mobile) doors, and we here at KIAC used the month of September to regroup and plan. We will be relaunching our thrice monthly medical clinics under the KIAC name beginning this month! 

We are so grateful to West Sound Free Clinic for their partnership with KIAC over the last several years. Through this collaboration, we have been able to provide medical care to hundreds of immigrants who don’t have other accessible, affordable options. And we are exceptionally thankful to the volunteer practitioners who have stayed on and are lending their experience and expertise to help us shape and create the clinic under KIAC’s name. 

Up until the passage of recent legislation (which KIAC team members advocated for in February), many immigrants have been ineligible to purchase health insurance depending on their status. They have also been ineligible for state sponsored insurance coverage. Although there has been a recent shift in legislation that will make obtaining health insurance more accessible to many immigrants in 2024, there is still a large gap in the accessibility and affordability of healthcare. KIAC is honored and grateful to step up and bridge that gap, providing direct care and leveraging partnerships to support the physical health of those we serve. 

We recently spoke with KIAC client Alex and his mom Hussaina about how KIAC’s medical clinic was literally lifesaving during Hussaina’s time of need. You can check out their story through this video on our YouTube. 

We appreciate your partnership in the many ways KIAC serves as a network of support to immigrants west of the Salish Sea. We couldn’t do this work without your generosity, and we are so grateful to you, our supporters and volunteers.

¡Tenemos noticias emocionantes para compartir! El 10 de octubre, KIAC llevará a cabo nuestra primera clínica médica interna. Durante los últimos años, nos hemos asociado con West Sound Free Clinic para brindar servicios médicos a nuestros clientes a través de tres clínicas cada mes. A finales de agosto, West Sound Free Clinic cerró sus puertas (móviles) y aquí en KIAC utilizamos el mes de septiembre para reagruparnos y planificar. ¡Relanzaremos nuestras clínicas médicas tres veces al mes bajo el nombre de KIAC a partir de este mes! 

Estamos muy agradecidos con West Sound Free Clinic por su asociación con KIAC durante los últimos años. A través de esta colaboración, hemos podido brindar atención médica a cientos de inmigrantes que no tienen otras opciones accesibles y asequibles. Y estamos excepcionalmente agradecidos a los practicantes voluntarios que se han quedado y están brindando su experiencia y conocimientos para ayudarnos a dar forma y crear la clínica bajo el nombre de KIAC. 

Hasta la aprobación de una legislación reciente (que los miembros del equipo de KIAC defendieron en febrero), muchos inmigrantes no eran elegibles para comprar un seguro médico dependiendo de su estatus. Tampoco han sido elegibles para la cobertura de seguro patrocinada por el estado. Aunque ha habido un cambio reciente en la legislación que hará que la obtención de un seguro médico sea más accesible para muchos inmigrantes en 2024, todavía existe una gran brecha en la accesibilidad y asequibilidad de la atención médica. KIAC se siente honrado y agradecido de dar un paso adelante y cerrar esa brecha, brindando atención directa y aprovechando asociaciones para apoyar la salud física de aquellos a quienes servimos.
