A young family fled their country of origin to escape beatings and death threats by government agents. At the US border, they were separated, and the mother was sent to the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. The rest of her family was released and allowed to travel to a state where they have relatives.

The KIAC team assisted the mother in preparing for her Credible Fear Hearing and submitted a statement arguing for parole. After months of detention and separation from her family, the young mother was released. She was in the arms of her family by midnight.
