The Kitsap Historical Society and Museum has a great exhibit on Filipino history. We encourage you to take it in. Here is their introduction:

“In preparation for our February exhibit showcasing the history of Filipino Americans on Bainbridge Island, we present “Rising Above the American Dream: Filipino American Pioneers.”

This informal exhibit is a brief overview of the Spanish-American and Philippine-American wars, a discussion about imperialism and colonization, and features regional Filipino American pioneers and union organizers.
Portions of the exhibit will be open for Kitsap’s Filipino American community members to share their own stories and will be a “community curated” work in progress from July 18 through October 27.

We would like to thank Eli Avellanoza for allowing us to use his design for our exhibit logo. You can see more of his work at
We are also deeply grateful to Dr. Dorothy Laigo Cordova of the Filipino American National Historical Society and Joann Oligario for sharing their wisdom and knowledge with us. It is truly an honor to learn from you.”
